Cardonald College, Glasgow launched an iPhone app on February 9

AVAILABLE free on iTunes, the app will give prospective students information on Cardonald College Glasgow’s creative courses in areas including television, jewellery and graphic design.

Alex McCluskey, head of faculty for creative industries, said: “The app will let prospective students, employers and commercial business clients see exactly what our creative department has on offer whenever and wherever they are.”

The Cardonald creative app will offer current students the opportunity to showcase their skills to potential employees and creative teams.

The company that designed the interface for the app is Screen media based in Glasgow.

Design

The app design is rooted in the corporate branding of Cardonald College Glasgow; especially the orange colour that represents the creative industry department.

Screenmedia is an award winning digital design agency, that produce engaging content, creative design and contemporary technology solutions across web, social and mobile platforms.

It works with some of the most prolific large and small companies in the UK including Channel 4, BBC, Scottish Natural Heritage, Glasgow School of Art and Tate London.

Director, Screenmedia said: “Screenmedia are working with the faculty of creative industries at Cardonald to design and develop an app which helps students, staff and stakeholders keep up to date with course information, news, events, galleries and recent student work. The app, which allows internal staff to update content from a web service, is highly dynamic and allows the faculty to communicate the diversity of its courses and activities with external audiences. The faculty is a hive of activity, innovation and achievement and this app is a vehicle for expressing this to the wider creative industry in Scotland and beyond.

“The creative industries faculty at Cardonald College is highly unique; staff and students are incredibly passionate and driven, and the quality of the work produced is testimony to this.  We find Cardonald Students to be highly skilled, pro-active and motivated and praise the innovation and diversity of the Creative Industries faculty, both in the activities they pursue and the skills and experience offered to the next generation of creative stars.”

Targeted

The app includes a section on the department’s training courses aimed at businesses, particularly business start-ups.  A number of courses at college have been developed specifically for individuals looking to enter the fashion industry and include developing a business plan for a fashion business and planning a fashion business.

Student Lee Ann Cardle said: “I’m studying the BA in creative industries practice and will be looking for full-time work next year so this is a great platform to display my work.  It’s great to have my work featured on a form of media that is promoting the college and hope that it will inspire future students to come to the college.”

The college app can be down loaded to iPhone, iPad and iphone touch to share and exhibit students’ work, faculty news and exhibitions announcements.

The design of the creative app is to ensure the college controls its information out-put live, and all the content offered with reflect the course work throughout the year as student change blocks.
